The City Council, to address the community’s affordable and workforce housing needs, established a Community Housing Committee. The role of the Committee is to advise the City Council on matters relating to policies and programs which will serve to further workforce and affordable housing inventories, programs and energy / water conservation measures that enhance the long term sustainability of current and future projects. In addition the Committee will consider and make recommendations to Council on rent stabilization topics.
The focus of the Committee shall be as follows:
Draft language for a GMO amendment to be placed before the voters in 2016 to incentivize affordable and workforce housing construction.
Recommend measures such as reduced fees or streamlined building procedures to provide for housing diversification thru infill development and construction of workforce housing.
Evaluate the potential imbalances between market rent and current rent.
Evaluate and address tenant displacement issues.
