Emergency Preparedness Brochure Available

The City of Healdsburg has developed a multi-page English- and Spanish-language emergency-preparedness brochure for the community. Created by the City Manager’s Office and the Fire and Police Departments, the brochure includes best practices on how you can prepare for disasters such as wildfires and floods. The emergency-preparedness brochure was mailed in the summer of 2019 to residents and businesses within the City limits.

Topics include building a family emergency kit (including pets), developing an emergency-communications plan, making your property more fire-resistant through vegetation management, and helpful resources from FEMA, Fire Safe Sonoma, and the American Red Cross.

The brochure also features two maps – one for Healdsburg and one for Fitch Mountain – that provide travel-route options when evacuation is necessary.

Start Planning Now

While the City of Healdsburg and other governmental agencies and disaster-relief organizations will do their utmost to help the community in a disaster, emergency responders may not be able to reach you immediately. You may need to be self-sufficient for several days – that means providing your own shelter, first aid, food, water and sanitation.

The overriding message of this resource: Prepare for a disaster now. Do you and your family have a communications plan in case you get separated? Have you digitized important documents? Do you have an emergency “go-bag” ready with necessities such as clothing, medication, and food? What’s your pet emergency plan? Don’t wait until a disaster strikes before you start planning.
