Fall Blood Drive at the Healdsburg Fire Department
On Saturday, October 9, 2021, the Healdsburg Fire Department gave away over 200 packets of fire prevention games, coloring books, stickers, buffs, and helmets for the children. While was not the same as having them visit the fire department in person, we were still able to provide life-saving information. Many times it’s the children who teach the adults about fire prevention. A big thank you to Berenice Garcia who put these packets together.
Foss Creek Pathway Signal at Dry Creek
On Tuesday, October 26, 2021 the City of Healdsburg will activate a new traffic signal on Dry Creek Road between Grove Street and Healdsburg Avenue at the Railroad Tracks. The traffic signal is part of the Foss Creek Pathway Project and will allow pedestrians and bicyclists to cross Dry Creek Road while vehicle traffic is stopped. The new traffic signal includes programming that is coordinated with the other traffic signals on Dry Creek road to allow pedestrian crossings while minimizing impacts to traffic. The signal timing limits pedestrian crossings to when they are least impactful, allowing traffic to flow similarly to pre-project conditions.
Foss Creek Pathway Segments 7 and 8 extends the pathway just under one mile along the Railroad right-of-way from the flood control detention basin by the Carson Warner Memorial Skate Park north to the intersection of Grove Street and Healdsburg Avenue. Although the path will be open, there may be miscellaneous construction items to be finalized in the following weeks.

City Council Approves Project Homekey Application Submittal
On October 18th, the City Council authorized City staff to submit an application to participate in the State of California’s Project Homekey program, a $1.45 billion competitive grant that helps communities rapidly acquire hotels, motels, commercial buildings, and other creative housing types to rapidly house people experiencing homelessness. The Homekey program, since its inception, has helped to house 8,264 individuals across 120 unique properties in California. This is the first step in a process to establish interim shelter in the City of Healdsburg. If the application is approved, the City will pursue the possibility of creating 22 units of housing at the L&M Motel.

Practice Proper Yard Waste Disposal
With the rainy season now upon us, please be aware that accumulations of yard waste in the street, including leaves: - Can clog storm drains, causing flooding and require emergency actions by City maintenance staff; and
- When decomposed, adds nitrogen and phosphorus to creeks and rivers, degrading water quality, and harming aquatic life; and
- Will overburden street sweeping equipment, creating added work for the street sweeper operator.
Many people are not aware that blowing or sweeping yard waste into the street is illegal. Yard waste bins from the waste disposal company are provided for disposing leaves and other organic waste. Street sweeping vehicles are intended to pick up fine materials to prevent them from entering our waterways, but not designed to pick up large quantities of leaves or other debris.
We appreciate your cooperation in maintaining the quality of our local watershed by practicing proper yard waste disposal.
